Humphreys University is a small private university in Stockton, in California's Central Valley, that has operated since 1896 as a career-oriented alternative to the region's larger public universities. It offers undergraduate business and legal-studies programs alongside continuing-education and paralegal tracks, and its identity has always leaned practical — training students for specific professional roles rather than pursuing a broad liberal-arts mission.
Its most distinctive feature is an in-house law school, the Laurence Drivon School of Law, which lets students in the Stockton legal community pursue a J.D. without leaving the area — an unusual offering for a university this size. Undergraduate programs in business administration and legal studies are similarly geared toward direct entry into local firms, courts, and businesses, often with evening or flexible scheduling built around working students.
Because much of the student body is commuting or working adults, campus culture centers less on residential traditions and more on flexible scheduling and a fairly direct path from classroom to local employment in the Stockton and San Joaquin Valley job market.
