Overview

Gordon College is a private evangelical Christian liberal arts college in Wenham, Massachusetts, on Boston's North Shore. It stands apart as one of the few unabashedly evangelical liberal arts colleges in New England, combining a traditional residential college experience with an explicit commitment to integrating Christian faith and academic life.

Academics

The sciences are a genuine strength, including coursework and research that make use of the college's coastal location for marine and environmental biology, and pre-health students have a solid track record heading into medical and related graduate programs. Music and education are also well-established departments, and the core curriculum requires broad exposure across disciplines alongside coursework that explicitly engages Christian thought.

Campus & student life

The 450-acre wooded campus sits inland from the Atlantic coast, giving it a New England feel of stone buildings and trees rather than an urban footprint, even though Boston's internships, arts, and job market are within easy reach. Chapel attendance and a community covenant around personal conduct are part of student life, and the culture is close-knit given the college's modest size.

Getting in

Gordon's application looks for genuine engagement with its faith mission alongside academic readiness, and many applicants are drawn specifically by its evangelical identity rather than choosing it as a secular alternative. Essays and a pastoral or faith reference are typically part of the process, reflecting the college's interest in fit as much as academic profile.

Worth knowing

Students sign a community covenant addressing personal conduct, a real commitment expected of the whole student body rather than a nominal policy, and campus life follows a faith-integrated rhythm most secular colleges don't have. Its North Shore location is a genuine asset for internships and access to Boston's hospitals, labs, and cultural institutions.
