Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is a Catholic university in the Lasallian tradition, with its undergraduate residential campus set among the bluffs of Winona, Minnesota, along the Mississippi River, and large separate graduate and adult-education programs based in the Twin Cities. The two halves of the university, a traditional undergraduate college and a large adult and graduate operation, operate somewhat independently.
Education and business are long-established undergraduate strengths, consistent with the university's Lasallian teaching mission, and the university also carries a strong performing-arts tradition for a school of its size. Twin Cities graduate programs extend the university's reach well beyond the Winona undergraduate population.
The Winona bluff-top setting gives the undergraduate campus a scenic, close-knit residential feel distinct from the university's much larger and more dispersed Twin Cities operations.
Prospective undergraduates should be clear that the Winona campus, not the Twin Cities locations, is where the traditional residential college experience happens; the Twin Cities sites serve primarily graduate and adult learners.
