The University of Michigan-Flint is one of the University of Michigan's regional campuses, located in downtown Flint and administratively linked to the flagship in Ann Arbor. It serves a largely commuter, first-generation, and working-adult student population, and its degree carries the University of Michigan name at a substantially different cost and campus experience than Ann Arbor.
Nursing and other health professions are a core strength, supported by clinical partnerships with Flint-area hospitals, and the business school and education programs are similarly built around working students and career-changers. Class sizes tend to be small, and the campus emphasizes practical, career-oriented degree paths over a traditional residential liberal-arts model.
The campus sits directly in downtown Flint along the Flint River, and student life is shaped as much by the surrounding city's ongoing revitalization as by campus traditions. Most students live off campus and many work while attending, so evening and part-time class options matter more here than on-campus social life.
Students earn a University of Michigan diploma without the Ann Arbor price tag or admissions selectivity, which is the primary draw for many who choose Flint over the flagship or over other regional options.
