Pfeiffer University is a small private university based in Misenheimer, North Carolina, a rural community in the central part of the state, with United Methodist Church heritage. It has grown a health-sciences identity in recent years that now sits alongside its original liberal-arts base.
Pfeiffer has expanded into graduate-level health programs, including occupational therapy and physician assistant studies, which has pulled resources and attention toward the health sciences even at the undergraduate level; pre-health tracks benefit from that institutional focus. Class sizes are small, and a service-learning ethos tied to the school's Methodist roots runs through much of the curriculum.
The main campus is rural and small, with a quieter, close-knit undergraduate community. Pfeiffer also has a presence in Charlotte for some graduate and professional programs, giving it a foot in a larger metro area distinct from the main undergraduate campus.
Pfeiffer is not highly selective and emphasizes fit and service orientation as much as pure academic metrics in its review.
Students should understand that Pfeiffer's undergraduate and graduate footprints are somewhat separate; the health-sciences graduate programs are based in Charlotte, while undergraduates are mostly at the Misenheimer campus.
