Union Adventist University, formerly Union College, is a Seventh-day Adventist institution in Lincoln, Nebraska. It combines a strong health-professions track record with the rhythms of Adventist religious practice, including Saturday Sabbath observance, built into the weekly campus calendar.
Physician assistant and nursing programs are the university's most recognized strengths, drawing students specifically for those health tracks, alongside a distinctive international rescue-and-relief major that trains students in emergency response and humanitarian aid work tied to Adventist mission service. Class sizes are small across the board.
Because Sabbath begins Friday at sundown, the weekly schedule shifts around it — no classes or major events run from Friday evening through Saturday, and campus worship is a fixed part of the week rather than an optional activity. Vegetarian dining, common at Adventist institutions, is part of daily campus life as well.
The Adventist calendar and health practices (no alcohol, Sabbath observance) apply campus-wide, not just to students of the Adventist faith, so a student should expect that rhythm regardless of personal religious background. The rescue-and-relief major in particular is unusual enough nationally that it draws students from well outside Nebraska specifically for that program.
