The Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music is the island's public conservatory, in San Juan, training classical and jazz musicians as well as music educators. Its history is tied to the legacy of cellist Pablo Casals, who helped build the island's classical music infrastructure after settling in Puerto Rico.
Training follows a conservatory model built around performance and instrumental study, with classical and jazz tracks alongside music education degrees for students headed toward teaching careers.
As a public institution serving the island, the conservatory is closely tied to Puerto Rico's broader classical and jazz music scene, including its orchestras, and functions as a primary pipeline for the island's professional musicians and music teachers.
RequiredHigh school diploma required; admission based primarily on audition and theory/dictation placement exam, no specific coursework units published
