Penn State Beaver is a commonwealth campus northwest of Pittsburgh, offering students a smaller, suburban entry point into the Penn State system.
Students can complete select Penn State degrees entirely at Beaver or begin any Penn State major there before finishing at University Park, with small classes giving closer faculty contact than the flagship campus offers to first- and second-year students.
The campus is suburban and modest in scale, with a residential option available alongside a largely commuter student population drawn from the greater Pittsburgh area.
Admission to Beaver is generally less competitive than direct admission to University Park, making it a common entry path into the Penn State system for students planning to transfer in-house later.
As with other commonwealth campuses, the main appeal is the 2+2 pathway into a full Penn State degree and brand at a lower admissions bar and smaller initial scale than University Park.
