Mercy University (until recently Mercy College) is a private university based in Dobbs Ferry, New York, on the Hudson River just north of New York City, with additional campuses in the Bronx and Manhattan that put it directly inside the city as well as in its northern suburbs.
Nursing and the health professions are the clearest strengths, alongside education, business, and behavioral science, all offered with a career-oriented, practical curriculum rather than a research-university model. The multi-campus structure means students in the Bronx or Manhattan locations have a more urban, commuter-heavy experience than those at the main Dobbs Ferry campus.
The Dobbs Ferry campus sits on the Hudson River in a quiet suburban setting, while the Bronx and Manhattan sites put students directly in New York City; the university serves a heavily first-generation, often working-adult population across all three locations.
Admission is accessible, with the university positioning itself explicitly around opening access to a population — first-generation and working students — that more selective private colleges in the region screen out.
Nursing and health-profession graduates place steadily with hospital systems in the lower Hudson Valley and New York City, and the university's identity as a launching point for first-generation professionals is a real, deliberate institutional mission.
Students should know the three campuses have genuinely different characters — Dobbs Ferry is suburban and more traditional, while the Bronx and Manhattan sites serve commuter students already living in the city.
