Nebraska Wesleyan University is a liberal arts university in Lincoln, Nebraska, with roots in the United Methodist Church. Located in the state capital, it combines the intimacy of a small liberal arts college with access to a real city, and has built a reputation as one of the stronger private options among Nebraska's college-bound students.
The university is particularly well regarded for its pre-health and pre-law preparation, with strong placement records into medical, dental, and law schools, and it emphasizes undergraduate research across the sciences and humanities. Its theatre program is unusually well developed for a school of its size, drawing students well beyond Nebraska. The curriculum follows a conventional liberal arts core with room for double majors and interdisciplinary study.
The campus has a friendly, close-knit residential character, with most students living on campus for at least their first two years. Being in Lincoln gives students access to a state capital's cultural and internship opportunities — government offices, hospitals, and a growing business sector — without losing the small-college feel of the campus itself. Athletics compete at the NCAA Division III level under the Prairie Wolves name.
Nebraska Wesleyan's admissions process is holistic, with particular attention to academic preparation for the pre-health and pre-law tracks that draw many applicants; students headed toward those tracks often highlight relevant coursework and activities in their applications.
Its location in Lincoln — rather than a small isolated college town — is a real differentiator among Nebraska's private colleges, giving students internship and clinical access that a more rural campus couldn't match.
