Penn State Abington is one of Penn State's commonwealth campuses, located in Abington Township in the Philadelphia suburbs. It offers the Penn State name and degree at a smaller, more intimate scale, with most students commuting rather than living on campus.
Students can complete a select number of degrees entirely at Abington, but many use the campus as the start of Penn State's 2+2 pathway, completing lower-division coursework locally before finishing their degree at University Park. Class sizes are smaller than at the main campus, giving students more direct faculty contact in the early years of their degree.
Most students commute from the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs, so campus life is less central to the experience than at a traditional residential college, though the campus does offer some residence halls and student organizations for those who want a more traditional experience.
Students considering Abington should think carefully about which specific degrees are completable there versus which require the eventual move to University Park, since that distinction shapes the whole four-year plan.
