Appalachian Bible College, near Beckley in the mountains of southern West Virginia, trains students for Christian ministry and service. Bible and theology form the core of every degree program, whatever a student's specific concentration, reflecting a mission built around serving Appalachia and beyond.
Concentrations run through ministry-adjacent fields such as missions, church music, and camping and outdoor ministry, layered on top of the required Bible and theology core — a structure that produces graduates broadly trained in Scripture first and specialized in a ministry application second. Class sizes are small, and faculty tend to be personally involved in students' ministry formation, not just their coursework.
The campus sits in a rural mountain setting, reinforcing a close, insulated community feel and a campus culture built around chapel, ministry practicums, and church-based service rather than typical secular campus life. Many students take on weekend ministry placements at churches or camps in the surrounding region as a normal part of their college years.
The college's explicit commitment to serving Appalachia specifically, not just training ministers in the abstract, shapes many students' eventual ministry placements back into rural and mountain communities in the region — a distinctive outcome relative to Bible colleges elsewhere.
