Indiana University Southeast, in New Albany, is one of IU's regional campuses, sitting just across the Ohio River from Louisville. It functions primarily as a commuter school, offering the IU name and degree to students in the Louisville metro area and southern Indiana without requiring relocation to Bloomington.
Business, education, and nursing are the campus's most established programs, taught at a regional-campus scale with smaller classes than the Bloomington flagship.
With most students commuting rather than living on campus, the social culture is less traditional-residential-college and more oriented around class schedules and local commitments; the Louisville metro area supplies much of students' social and professional life outside class.
Admission standards run more accessible than IU Bloomington's, consistent with the regional campus's role as a local access point into the IU system.
Students earn an actual Indiana University degree, and some regional-campus students transfer credits toward Bloomington-based programs, though IU Southeast operates as its own distinct campus community day to day.
