Le Moyne College is a private Jesuit college in Syracuse, New York, founded in 1946, making it one of the youngest Jesuit colleges in the country and the first to admit women from its founding. Its identity blends Jesuit liberal arts, an emphasis on ethics, reflection, and service, with solid pre-professional programs, giving it a smaller, more intimate feel than most Jesuit institutions.
Pre-med and other health-professions tracks are a particular strength, supported by close advising and strong medical school placement for a college this size. The Madden School of Business and education programs are also well established. Class sizes are small throughout, and the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis, care for the whole person, shows up in close faculty-student relationships.
Syracuse gives Le Moyne a genuine small-city backdrop without the isolation of a rural campus. Student life centers on a close-knit residential community, service trips, and campus ministry rooted in Jesuit tradition, alongside a growing athletics profile.
Applications are reviewed holistically, with essays and a sense of mission fit, service orientation, intellectual curiosity, weighed alongside academic record rather than a rigid formula.
Health professions and business draw large shares of graduates, many of whom stay in central New York or the broader Northeast. The Jesuit alumni network offers connections well beyond Syracuse.
Le Moyne moved its athletics program from Division II to Division I in 2023, joining the America East Conference, a notable and fairly rare jump for a college this size, and one that has reshaped campus athletic culture and visibility.
