Nevada State University is a young public institution in Henderson, near Las Vegas, created to expand college access in one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the country. It serves a majority-minority, heavily first-generation student body and identifies itself primarily as a teaching institution rather than a research university.
Nursing and education are the flagship programs, built to meet direct workforce demand in the Las Vegas Valley, with a practical, career-oriented approach to the curriculum overall.
As a relatively new and still-growing institution, Nevada State's campus and traditions are still developing compared with older, more established public universities; prospective students should expect a newer campus and fewer long-standing traditions than at a legacy institution.
