Purdue Fort Wayne is Purdue's campus in Indiana's second-largest city, formed when the longtime joint Indiana University-Purdue Fort Wayne campus split and Purdue took over sole administration. Most students commute from the Fort Wayne area, giving the university a strongly local, non-residential character relative to a typical four-year college.
Engineering and business are established strengths, and the Sweetwater-endowed music program, named for the recording-equipment company founded by Chuck Surack, has become a notable draw for a regional campus of its size, with recording and audio-engineering facilities uncommon elsewhere in the region.
As a majority-commuter campus, traditional residential college life — dorms, a dominant Greek scene — is less central than at a residential university; student life instead centers more on academic departments, clubs, and the surrounding Fort Wayne community.
Admission is accessible and grade-driven, in keeping with Purdue's broader regional-campus model, without the elaborate essay process associated with the flagship West Lafayette campus.
Students should know Purdue Fort Wayne's degree carries the Purdue name and curriculum in many programs but operates with its own admissions, culture, and commuter-heavy student body distinct from the main West Lafayette campus.
