LaGrange College, founded in 1831 in west Georgia, is the oldest private college in the state, affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It is a small liberal-arts college built around close class sizes and a January interim term that lets students travel or pursue focused projects outside the normal semester structure.
LaGrange's curriculum follows a traditional liberal-arts model with practical strength in education, business, and pre-health preparation; the January term is used deliberately for travel courses, internships, or intensive single-subject study, giving students a structured break from the regular course load. Class sizes are small enough for consistent faculty contact.
The campus sits in LaGrange, a small Georgia city, giving students a modest off-campus town alongside a compact, traditional campus. Methodist heritage informs the college's culture without dominating daily life for non-religious students.
LaGrange is not highly selective and reviews applications holistically, with attention to fit with its small, community-oriented culture.
The January interim term is a genuinely distinctive scheduling feature worth understanding; it functions as a dedicated window for travel study or internships built into the academic calendar rather than an optional add-on.
