San Juan Bautista School of Medicine, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, is a small private institution built around its medical school, with allied programs in nursing and public health alongside it. Instruction is bilingual, and clinical rotations run through an affiliated community hospital and other clinical sites on the island, giving the school a strong local, community-medicine orientation rather than a large-scale research-hospital model.
The MD curriculum follows the standard preclinical-then-clinical structure of US medical education, with clinical years built around the affiliated hospital and community health settings across Puerto Rico. The nursing and public health programs share some of that clinical infrastructure and community-health orientation, though at a smaller scale than the medical school itself.
Graduates enter residency training on the island and stateside, and the school's community-hospital clinical model gives many students direct exposure to primary care and community medicine in underserved settings before graduation.
