York College is a senior college in the City University of New York system, located in Jamaica, Queens, one of the most ethnically diverse areas in the country. It offers a broad liberal-arts foundation alongside several professional programs, serving mostly local, commuting students at CUNY's characteristically low in-state cost.
Aviation management is a distinctive offering, reflecting the college's proximity to JFK Airport, alongside established programs in health professions and business. The campus also hosts a major FDA regional laboratory, giving science students an unusual on-site connection to a federal regulatory agency's actual working operations.
Nearly all students commute from across Queens and the broader New York City area, so campus life is organized more around classes, clubs, and academic support services than residential traditions. The surrounding Jamaica neighborhood is well connected by subway and bus lines into the rest of the city.
The FDA laboratory on campus is a genuine and unusual asset for science-track students, and the aviation management program benefits directly from the college's location near one of the country's busiest airports.
