The University of Northwestern-St. Paul is a private evangelical Christian university on a lakeside campus in Roseville, Minnesota, just outside the Twin Cities. It requires every traditional undergraduate to complete a Bible minor regardless of major, reflecting a campus culture where faith formation is integrated into the academic program. The university has historical ties to evangelist Billy Graham, who served as its second president in its early years.
Northwestern is known for ministry and biblical studies, education, music, and media and communications programs, the last bolstered by the university's ownership of a network of Christian radio stations that gives media students real broadcast experience. Business and health-related programs round out the curriculum.
The campus sits on a small lake and carries a close, chapel-centered evangelical community culture, with regular chapel attendance and a code of conduct typical of conservative Christian universities. Its location just outside the Twin Cities gives students access to internships and a major metro area's resources despite the campus's smaller, insulated feel.
The university's ownership of an actual radio broadcast network is a genuine, distinctive resource for its media and communications students, and the required Bible minor means every graduate leaves with a formal grounding in biblical studies alongside their major.
