The Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, based in Ponce on the island's southern coast, is a private Catholic university teaching primarily in Spanish. It serves students across southern Puerto Rico and is one of the island's more established private institutions, with Catholic identity central to its mission and daily life.
Law, education, nursing, and business are its most recognized programs regionally, with the law school in particular carrying a strong reputation within Puerto Rico's legal profession.
Instruction and campus life proceed primarily in Spanish, and religious observance is a visible part of daily life, so the experience differs meaningfully from a mainland U.S. Catholic college.
