Penn State York is one of Pennsylvania State University's commonwealth campuses, located in York in south-central Pennsylvania. It serves primarily as a commuter campus offering a smaller set of complete degree programs alongside the option to start almost any Penn State major there and finish at the University Park main campus.
Students beginning at York take lower-division and general-education coursework alongside a select group of majors completable entirely on site; most bachelor's programs, however, require transferring to University Park or another larger Penn State campus partway through, a structure common across the commonwealth campus system.
Choosing York over University Park is mainly a decision about cost, campus size, and proximity to home rather than a difference in the degree ultimately earned, since the Penn State name and much of the curriculum carry over regardless of starting campus, but students should confirm in advance whether their intended major is one of the few completable fully at York.
