Hebrew Theological College, in Skokie, Illinois, serves the Chicago area's Orthodox Jewish community with a structure that combines intensive Torah and Talmudic study with academic degree programs, rather than functioning as a pure yeshiva or a pure secular college. It includes a women's division alongside its more traditional men's yeshiva program, and its affiliation with the Touro University System allows it to grant recognized secular degrees alongside its religious-studies track.
Men's-division students typically split their day between intensive Talmudic study and secular coursework leading to a bachelor's degree through the Touro affiliation, while the women's division offers its own combination of Judaic studies and academic degree programs. This dual-track structure — deep traditional text study paired with a conventional accredited degree — is the school's defining academic feature.
The combination of yeshiva-level Talmudic study with an accredited secular degree, via the Touro connection, is relatively distinctive; a graduate leaves with both serious rabbinic-track learning and a usable secular credential.
