Stetson University, in DeLand between Orlando and Daytona Beach, is Florida's oldest private university. Its oak-shaded historic campus anchors a classic small college town, and small classes with close faculty mentoring define the day-to-day academic experience.
The School of Music operates at a conservatory level of seriousness within a broader liberal arts university, and admission to music programs requires an audition. Business programs are another established strength, and pre-law preparation is unusually well supported thanks to the university's own affiliated law school on a separate campus near St. Petersburg.
DeLand's small-town, tree-lined downtown sits immediately next to campus, giving Stetson a classic, contained college-town feel rather than an urban or commuter one. Small class sizes carry through into campus culture generally — students are known by name by faculty and staff more than at larger universities nearby.
Review is holistic and pays real attention to fit with a small liberal-arts community. Music applicants go through a separate audition process alongside standard admission materials.
The connection to Stetson's own law school, though located on a separate campus, gives undergraduates a more direct and visible pathway into legal education than most universities without a law school of their own can offer.
