Overview
Walla Walla University is a Seventh-day Adventist university in College Place, Washington, set in the Walla Walla Valley's wine country near the Blue Mountains. Adventist practice and Sabbath observance shape the rhythm of campus life in a way that sets it apart from most regional universities.
Academics
Engineering is a genuine and somewhat unusual signature program for an Adventist institution, giving the university a technical reputation beyond the health and ministry focus typical of its peer schools. Nursing is a major strength as well, taught largely at the university's Portland campus, and aviation is another distinctive offering, training students toward flight careers alongside the more traditional majors.
Campus & student life
Sabbath observance running from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown is a real, structural part of the weekly calendar — classes, athletics, and most campus activities pause for it — giving the community a rhythm built around worship and rest rather than a conventional five-day academic week. The valley setting, surrounded by vineyards and mountains, is a quiet, rural backdrop.
Worth knowing
The Sabbath calendar is the most defining fact a prospective student should understand going in, since it genuinely reshapes the weekly schedule around religious observance. The combination of engineering and aviation programs within a Seventh-day Adventist university is uncommon and gives Walla Walla a technical identity distinct from most of its denominational peers.
