Trinity International University, based in Deerfield north of Chicago, is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America and is best known through Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS), one of the more academically respected evangelical seminaries in the country. The undergraduate college shares the Deerfield campus with that seminary and carries a serious, doctrinally engaged evangelical identity rather than a broadly nondenominational one. In recent years, undergraduate enrollment and program delivery have shifted substantially toward online formats, changing the character of the traditional residential undergraduate experience the campus once offered.
TEDS' reputation for rigorous evangelical theological scholarship gives undergraduates unusual proximity to serious graduate-level theology, biblical-studies, and philosophy faculty, and cross-registration or shared coursework connects the two levels more than at a typical undergraduate college without an attached seminary. Bible and theology run through general-education requirements campus-wide, even for students majoring outside religious studies.
The shift of undergraduate programs toward online delivery means prospective students should confirm directly what residential campus life at Deerfield still looks like versus what has moved online, since the balance has changed meaningfully from the school's earlier, more traditionally residential era.
