Bloomfield College of Montclair State University is a small campus in Bloomfield, New Jersey, that became part of Montclair State University in 2023 after years as an independent, historically minority-serving college. The merger preserved Bloomfield's founding mission of serving Black, Latino, and first-generation students while attaching it to a much larger public university's resources.
Nursing, business, and creative arts are the most established programs on the Bloomfield campus, and students now have access to Montclair State's broader course catalog and degree options alongside the smaller campus's own offerings.
Admission through the Bloomfield campus has generally been more accessible than direct admission to Montclair State's main campus, consistent with its historic role serving first-generation and underrepresented students.
Because the merger is recent, the balance between Bloomfield's own identity and Montclair State's systems and resources is still settling — worth a direct question during a visit about which programs and student-life traditions remain distinct from Montclair State's main campus.
