The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is a regional branch campus of the University of Pittsburgh, set in the forested Allegheny highlands of northwestern Pennsylvania. It offers the Pitt degree and name in a small-campus setting quite different in scale and feel from the Pittsburgh flagship.
Nursing, criminal justice, and the sciences are the programs most associated with the Bradford campus, taught in small classes with more direct faculty access than students would get at Pitt's main campus. Students earn a University of Pittsburgh degree regardless of which campus they attend.
The surrounding Allegheny National Forest gives the area a genuinely rural, outdoors character, and hiking and other outdoor recreation are realistic parts of student life here in a way they aren't at Pitt's Oakland campus. The town of Bradford is small, so campus life is more self-contained than at a downtown or suburban campus.
As a regional branch campus, Bradford's admissions standards run less selective than Pitt's Oakland campus, making it a realistic access point to a Pitt degree, with some students transferring to the main campus after a year or two.
Some students specifically use Bradford as a lower-cost, smaller-scale entry point into the University of Pittsburgh system, later transferring to the Oakland campus for upper-division years or staying at Bradford for all four.
