Franklin College is a private liberal-arts college in Franklin, Indiana, just south of Indianapolis, with historic Baptist roots and an early record of admitting women. It combines a small residential liberal-arts core with a journalism program whose reputation in Indiana media significantly outpaces the college's overall size.
Journalism is Franklin's standout program, with strong ties to Indiana newsrooms and a track record of graduates entering print, broadcast, and digital media across the state. Education and other pre-professional tracks round out the curriculum, and an immersive January term lets students take short, intensive courses, internships, or travel experiences outside the regular semester structure.
The small residential campus sits close enough to Indianapolis for easy internship access while retaining a tight-knit small-town feel. Division III athletics and a close campus community are typical of the college's size.
Admission is holistic and personal; journalism applicants often strengthen their file with writing samples or media experience.
Franklin's journalism alumni network carries real weight within Indiana media specifically, and other pre-professional graduates commonly move on to regional graduate or professional programs.
January term is a genuine curricular feature, not a token add-on, giving students a real block of time each year for internships, travel, or intensive coursework outside the normal two-semester rhythm.
