UW-Green Bay is a public university on the shore of Green Bay in northeastern Wisconsin, founded in the late 1960s around an unusually interdisciplinary, environmentally themed mission — an identity still visible in its "Eco U" nickname and its natural-areas preserve along the bay.
Business, psychology, environmental science, and nursing are among its most established programs, and the university's original problem-focused, interdisciplinary curriculum design still shapes parts of its general-education structure, organized more loosely around broad themes than strict departmental silos.
The campus borders a large natural preserve used directly for coursework and research, and its location in Green Bay — a small city with an outsized sports identity thanks to the Packers — gives it a hometown, sports-aware culture. Phoenix men's basketball, a Horizon League program with a history of NCAA tournament appearances, is the main athletic draw and a unifying campus event.
Admission is accessible and largely credential-based, typical of a regional Wisconsin public university, with in-state students making up most of the class.
