Saint Joseph's College of Maine is the state's only Catholic college, founded by the Sisters of Mercy, on a lakeside campus in Standish overlooking Sebago Lake. It combines a small traditional residential undergraduate program with a substantial online division serving adult learners nationwide, giving the college two quite different student populations.
Nursing and other health professions are the college's strongest traditional undergraduate programs, complemented by education. The online division serves working adults pursuing degree completion or graduate study on a schedule independent of the Standish campus calendar.
The Sebago Lake setting supports a quiet, outdoors-adjacent residential life for the on-campus undergraduate population, distinct from the much larger and more geographically dispersed online student body.
Prospective on-campus students should understand that Saint Joseph's runs two largely separate institutions in practice — a small residential Catholic college in rural Maine and a large national online program — and campus culture reflects the former, not the latter's scale.
