Davenport is a private, career-focused university headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a network of smaller locations across the state and a substantial online division. It was built from the start around workforce preparation rather than a traditional liberal-arts model, and its student body reflects that: many students are commuters, transfers, or working adults balancing school with jobs and family.
Business and technology form the institutional core, with cybersecurity a particular point of emphasis — Davenport has built out security-focused degree tracks that lean into Michigan's growing tech-security employer base. Health professions round out the other major strength. Programs are generally structured for practical, applied learning, and scheduling is built to accommodate students who are not on campus full time.
With instructional sites spread across Michigan and a large online population, Davenport does not have the single unified residential campus culture of a traditional four-year college; the Grand Rapids location functions as the closest thing to a hub. Traditional student-life traditions and athletics exist but are a smaller part of the overall experience than at a residential university of comparable size.
Because so much of Davenport's population is commuting, working, or studying online, prospective students should think concretely about which physical location, or the online track, actually fits their situation, since the day-to-day experience differs meaningfully by site.
