Concordia College is a private college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, located in Moorhead, Minnesota, directly across the Red River from Fargo, North Dakota. It shares name recognition with other Concordia colleges nationally but is distinct and well known in its own right, particularly for its choral music tradition.
Music, especially choral music, is Concordia's signature strength — its Christmas concert is broadcast nationally and draws performers and audiences well beyond the campus. The sciences are also strong, benefiting from close faculty mentorship typical of a small college. Concordia Language Villages, the college's immersive language-camp program, is a well-known extension of its academic mission into language education for both students and the broader public.
The Fargo-Moorhead metro gives students more urban amenities than the college's small-town Minnesota address might suggest, while the campus itself keeps a close-knit, residential, Lutheran-affiliated community feel. Choir participation and rehearsal life are a real part of campus rhythm for a large share of students, not just music majors.
Applications are reviewed holistically, and involvement in music or the arts, even for non-majors, is a genuine plus given how central the choral tradition is to campus identity.
Music education and performance graduates have a strong placement record in schools and ensembles regionally and beyond, reflecting the strength and visibility of the program.
Concordia Language Villages is a distinctive extension of the college's mission — some students work as counselors or language instructors there, connecting the college's academic identity to a broader public program.
