Overview
Milligan University is a Christian liberal arts university in the mountains of northeast Tennessee near Johnson City, rooted in the Christian churches/Churches of Christ tradition. Its covenant-based campus culture ties academic life to explicit faith commitments among students and faculty alike.
Academics
Nursing, engineering, and occupational therapy are notable strengths beyond what a typical small Christian college offers, giving Milligan a more technical and health-professional range than its size might suggest. Bible and ministry coursework are integrated broadly across majors, not confined to a single religion department.
Campus & student life
The Appalachian setting near Johnson City places Milligan in a scenic mountain region with outdoor recreation nearby, and the small, tight campus reinforces a close residential community built around shared faith commitments. Students sign a covenant agreement as part of enrollment, a defining and binding feature of campus culture.
Getting in
Milligan reviews applications holistically, and mission fit with its faith commitments matters as much as academic record — pastoral references or statements of faith are typically part of the process, consistent with the covenant students agree to as members of the community.
After graduation
Nursing, engineering, and occupational therapy graduates place well regionally across Tennessee and the broader Appalachian health and technical workforce, and many graduates go on to ministry or Christian-service vocations reflecting the university's mission.
Worth knowing
The covenant students sign at enrollment is a genuine behavioral and lifestyle commitment, not a symbolic gesture, and prospective students should understand it as a real condition of attending.
