Covenant College sits atop Lookout Mountain, Georgia, just outside Chattanooga, as the denominational college of the Presbyterian Church in America. Its main academic building is a former resort hotel, giving the campus one of the more dramatic settings of any small college in the South.
A Reformed Christian theological framework runs through every discipline, not just religion courses — faculty are expected to teach from within that tradition across the sciences, humanities, and business alike. Class sizes are small and the curriculum leans toward a traditional liberal-arts core.
The mountaintop setting is genuinely isolated, which shapes a tight-knit residential community with limited off-campus distraction. Chapel and religious life are a consistent part of the weekly schedule, consistent with the college's denominational identity.
Covenant looks for applicants comfortable with and generally supportive of its Reformed evangelical framework, alongside standard academic preparation; fit with the college's faith commitments is an explicit part of the review.
Students should know the Reformed theological lens is woven into coursework broadly, not confined to a religion department, which shapes classroom discussion even in fields like biology or economics.
