The Mayaguez campus is a regional branch of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, serving the island's west coast with Catholic-affiliated higher education conducted primarily in Spanish. It offers programs in fields such as business, education, and health-related studies, functioning as a smaller, more local alternative to the system's main Ponce campus.
As a satellite campus, Mayaguez is considerably smaller in scope and program breadth than the main PCUPR campus in Ponce, and is best understood as a regional access point for west-coast Puerto Rico students rather than a full-scale university in its own right.
