North Carolina Central University is a public historically Black university in Durham, part of the UNC System, with a distinctive legacy as the first public liberal arts institution founded for Black students in the country.
Its law school is nationally known among HBCU law programs, and business, nursing, and criminal justice are also established strengths. NCCU's Research Triangle location gives students in biotech and health fields access to a dense regional employer base, and public-sector and legal internships are a natural fit given the law school's presence.
The campus sits within Durham, giving students proximity to the broader Triangle's job market, other area universities, and a growing biotech and tech sector, while retaining its own distinct HBCU campus culture and traditions.
The law school in particular has a strong record of producing Black attorneys and judges, and NCCU is often cited among historically Black institutions for that legacy specifically.
