Overview
John Carroll University is a Jesuit Catholic university in University Heights, a suburb of Cleveland. It combines a Jesuit liberal-arts core curriculum with respected professional programs, and its regional ties to Cleveland's business community are a defining part of the university's identity.
Academics
The Boler College of Business is a particular strength, alongside education and strong pre-professional advising. Every student, regardless of major, completes a Jesuit core curriculum built around breadth across the humanities and sciences, reflecting the Ignatian emphasis on educating the whole person rather than just training for a specific job.
Campus & student life
University Heights is a quiet residential suburb close to downtown Cleveland, giving students easy access to the city without an urban campus. Campus ministry, retreats, and service programs rooted in Jesuit tradition are a visible part of student life, alongside NCAA Division III athletics as the Blue Streaks.
After graduation
The university has a long-standing record of placing graduates directly into Cleveland's business and professional community, helped by a regional alumni network concentrated in Northeast Ohio.
Worth knowing
The required Jesuit core curriculum means even business or pre-professional students take a genuinely broad set of humanities and science courses — worth knowing for a student who wants a narrowly focused major with minimal general education.
