Taylor University is an evangelical Christian liberal-arts college in the small town of Upland, Indiana, where an intentional residence-life culture built around "wing" communities — floor-based groups that eat, pray, and socialize together — forms the emotional center of student life more than at most colleges. Faith commitment is not a side feature here but a structuring principle of the whole student experience.
Education, engineering, computer science, and biblical studies are consistently strong programs, and the curriculum across majors is explicitly integrated with a Christian worldview rather than faith being confined to religion courses. Class sizes stay small and faculty mentorship is a defining feature, with professors expected to be involved in students' spiritual formation as well as their academic progress.
Upland is a small rural Indiana town, and campus life is correspondingly self-contained and tightly knit, organized heavily around the wing system, chapel, and shared lifestyle commitments that students sign onto at enrollment. Athletics and campus traditions matter, but the wing culture is what alumni most often describe as defining their time there.
Taylor's application looks for genuine, articulated Christian faith commitment alongside academic readiness, and essays or personal statements addressing spiritual life are a real part of the review — this is not a formality for applicants who aren't prepared to engage with it seriously.
Graduates go on strongly into education, engineering, and ministry-adjacent careers, with a notably loyal and engaged alumni network that stays connected through the university's evangelical community networks well beyond graduation.
Students commit to explicit lifestyle standards and shared faith practice as a condition of enrollment, not just campus atmosphere — a student and family should understand this is a binding expectation, not background color, before applying.
