Overview

Averett University is a small private university in Danville, Virginia, near the North Carolina line, with Baptist heritage and a strong emphasis on personal attention in small classes.

Academics

Aeronautics is the university's most distinctive program — students can earn actual flight ratings as part of their coursework, a rare offering at a school this size — and equestrian studies is another notable, hands-on program that similarly stands out among small liberal arts universities.

Worth knowing

Both the aeronautics and equestrian programs give Averett a set of genuinely hands-on, credential-bearing options that most small private universities its size don't offer at all, which is the university's clearest point of distinction.
