Overview
The University of Findlay is a private university in northwest Ohio built around a distinctive cluster of animal-related and health-science programs rather than a conventional liberal arts core.
Academics
Its equestrian programs, both English and Western riding, are among the most recognized in the country and draw students nationally who might otherwise attend a specialized riding academy rather than a university. Pre-veterinary studies and animal science are similarly strong, supported by on-campus animal facilities, and occupational therapy, physical therapy, and pharmacy round out a health-sciences lineup that's unusually deep for a school this size.
Campus & student life
Findlay's animal science and equestrian facilities are central to campus identity; students in those programs spend as much time at barns and clinical sites as in classrooms, giving campus a hands-on, applied character distinct from a typical small-town private university.
Getting in
Admission to the equestrian and pre-health programs is more competitive than the university overall, since those tracks draw a specific, self-selected national applicant pool; general admission is more accessible.
After graduation
Graduates in equestrian studies go on to riding instruction, training, and equine-industry careers nationally, while pre-vet and health-science graduates have a well-established track record of admission to veterinary and other professional health programs.
Worth knowing
The equestrian program's national reputation is real and specific; it's one of the reasons students travel to a small Ohio city for college rather than staying closer to specialized riding programs elsewhere.
