The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, formerly known as St. Louis College of Pharmacy, is a health-professions institution in the city's Central West End medical district, adjacent to Washington University's medical campus and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Nearly the entire student body is pursuing pharmacy or an allied health field, and many enter through direct-entry pathways into the school's Doctor of Pharmacy program rather than a traditional undecided-major track.
The curriculum is built around clinical training from the start, with students beginning pharmacy-specific coursework early and completing rotations inside the surrounding hospital system. Allied health science programs share that same practically oriented, health-system-embedded approach.
Because most students enter through direct-entry professional pathways, admissions weighs high school science preparation and readiness for an accelerated, health-sciences-focused curriculum rather than a broad liberal-arts fit.
The institution functions less like a traditional four-year college and more like a professional school with an undergraduate front end; students already certain about a pharmacy or allied-health career find a direct, efficient pathway, while those still exploring broader academic interests may find the focus narrow.
