Overview

The University of Dallas is a Catholic liberal arts university in Irving, Texas, built around a rigorous, required Core curriculum grounded in the great books and the Western intellectual and religious tradition. It has cultivated a strongly intellectual, classically minded Catholic identity that sets it apart from most Catholic universities of its size, attracting students specifically drawn to a serious, tradition-oriented liberal arts education.

Academics

Nearly every student takes the same demanding sequence of Core courses in literature, philosophy, theology, history, and politics, regardless of major, alongside specialized coursework — a structure closer to a great-books college than a typical modern university. The undergraduate college, Constantin College, sits alongside a well-regarded graduate business school, the Braniff Graduate School, giving Dallas a respected MBA program under the same roof as its Core-driven undergraduate identity.

Campus & student life

Catholic religious practice is woven deeply into campus life — daily Mass, a serious commitment to intellectual formation alongside faith, and a close residential community are all part of the ordinary rhythm of the university, not an add-on to it.

Getting in

Applicants to the University of Dallas are typically drawn specifically by its Core curriculum and its classical Catholic identity, and the admissions process looks for students genuinely prepared for and interested in that kind of demanding, text-based education rather than a conventional distribution-requirement curriculum.

Worth knowing

The university's signature tradition sends most sophomores to its own campus outside Rome for a semester immersed in the sites and texts of the Western tradition firsthand — a defining feature of the Dallas experience that few other American universities can match at this scale, and a major reason serious applicants choose the school.
