Montreat College is a small Christian college in a mountain cove near Black Mountain, North Carolina, with roots in the Presbyterian tradition. The campus sits inside the town of Montreat, long known as a conference and retreat center and closely associated with evangelist Billy Graham, whose home was in the area.
Environmental science and outdoor education draw directly on the mountain setting and are among the more distinctive offerings for a college this size. Education and business round out the more career-oriented side of the curriculum, taught within a faith-integrated framework.
The setting is dramatic and remote, a mountain cove with limited flat land, and the college shares its small town with the Montreat Conference Center, giving campus life a retreat-like, faith-centered rhythm. Outdoor recreation is part of daily life given the terrain.
The tie to the Montreat conference community and the area's Billy Graham association give the college a religious-retreat character beyond a typical denominational affiliation - students should expect faith practice to be a visible, everyday part of campus life rather than a background feature.
