Mesivtha Tifereth Jerusalem, on Manhattan's Lower East Side, is one of the older and more storied yeshivas in the American Orthodox Jewish world, long associated with Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, one of the most influential halachic authorities of the twentieth century, who led the institution for decades. It offers traditional Talmudic study for Orthodox Jewish men, organized around full-day text study under senior rabbis rather than a conventional undergraduate curriculum of majors and electives.
The Feinstein connection gives MTJ particular standing within the yeshiva world - many of his rabbinic rulings (teshuvot) were written while he led the institution - and it remains a reference point for students and rabbis tracing halachic lineage back to his teaching, distinct from newer or less established yeshivas.
