Blue Mountain Christian University is a private Baptist university in the small town of Blue Mountain in northeast Mississippi, founded in 1873 as a college for women and now fully coeducational, affiliated with the Mississippi Baptist Convention.
Education, ministry, and business are the university's strongest and most established programs, taught within a close-knit Christian academic community where small classes and personal faculty attention are the norm.
The campus sits in a rural, small-town setting typical of northeast Mississippi, and student life is organized closely around the Christian campus community, with chapel and faith-life programming part of the expected rhythm.
Admissions considers faith and community fit alongside academic record, consistent with the university's Baptist mission, and is not a highly competitive process.
The university's long history as a women's college dating to 1873 is part of its institutional identity even though it has been coeducational for decades, and its small-town, denominational character should be weighed heavily by students considering it.
