Oregon Health & Science University is Portland's academic health center, its hillside campus on Marquam Hill connected to the city's South Waterfront by an aerial tram. It functions overwhelmingly as a graduate and professional institution, with medicine, dentistry, and biomedical research as its core identity.
Undergraduate-level study at OHSU is limited almost entirely to nursing and health-related completion degree programs, often serving students finishing degrees begun elsewhere across Oregon's regional partner campuses, rather than a full four-year undergraduate experience on the Portland hill. Research strength in medicine and the biosciences is substantial and shapes the environment even for the smaller undergraduate-facing programs.
Prospective students should understand that OHSU is not a typical four-year college — it is best understood as Oregon's flagship academic medical center, and the small undergraduate nursing and health-completion pathways it offers exist within that much larger graduate and clinical institution.
