The University of the Ozarks is a small Presbyterian-affiliated college in Clarksville, Arkansas, set in the Ozark foothills of the state's River Valley region. It is known for very small classes and close faculty-student contact, with a student body that is notably more international than its rural Arkansas setting might suggest.
Class sizes are small across the curriculum, and the college has built a genuine specialty in supporting students with diagnosed learning differences through a structured, individualized academic-support program - one of the more established programs of its kind at a small college. Beyond that, the curriculum follows a fairly standard liberal-arts and pre-professional range.
The Ozark foothills setting gives the campus a quiet, small-town character, and the college has long drawn a significant number of students from Central America through Walton family-funded scholarships, giving the student body more international texture than the surrounding region would suggest.
Admissions are holistic, and the learning-support program has its own separate application and evaluation process for students seeking those services.
The combination of a structured learning-difference support program and a substantial Central American student population, both longstanding features rather than recent additions, sets Ozarks apart from similarly sized rural colleges.
