Bethlehem College & Seminary is a small Christian institution in downtown Minneapolis, closely tied to Bethlehem Baptist Church, a congregation widely known in evangelical circles through the ministry of its longtime pastor and author John Piper. The college grew out of the church's own leadership-training efforts into a small undergraduate program alongside its seminary.
The undergraduate curriculum is built around a Great Books, close-reading approach to theology, philosophy, and the Western tradition, taught in small discussion-based classes rather than large lectures, with an explicit Reformed Baptist theological orientation running through the coursework.
The campus is compact and urban, embedded in downtown Minneapolis rather than a traditional quad-and-lawn setting, and daily life is closely tied to the rhythms of the affiliated church community, including regular participation in congregational life.
Admissions looks for students who want a theologically serious, confessionally Reformed education and are comfortable with the school's close integration of academic study and church life; it draws a small applicant pool relative to a mainstream Christian college.
Many students choose Bethlehem specifically because of its connection to Piper's preaching and writing and the broader ministry associated with him, and the college's small size means a very close relationship between students, faculty, and church leadership.
