Nelson University, in Waxahachie south of Dallas, was formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God University and was renamed for pioneering evangelist P.C. Nelson. It is a Pentecostal Christian university built around ministry preparation within the Assemblies of God tradition.
Ministry and church leadership programs are the heart of the curriculum, with education, business, and counseling offered alongside them, all taught within an explicitly charismatic, Pentecostal faith framework rather than a general-purpose liberal arts approach.
Campus life centers on the charismatic faith community, with worship, ministry practicums, and Assemblies of God denominational culture shaping daily life more than at a typical Christian college with looser denominational ties.
Admission includes an expectation of Christian faith commitment consistent with the university's Pentecostal identity, alongside standard academic review.
RequiredOfficial high school transcript showing graduation and a minimum 2.0 GPA (no specific course pattern published), or proof of high school equivalency (GED) -- also requires ACT 19+ / CLT 64+ / SAT 990+ (or an Accuplacer placement exam in lieu of test scores)
